We have reached a significant point in development of our Student
governing body and the leadership it provides. At today's Student
Council meeting, Spartan College Vice President (Ryan Goertzen) and
Director of Student Services (Ron Worthington) presented a $5000.00
check to the student body! Thank you Spartan! Spartan has shown that
they are committed to developing a "complete" Student.
This is the essence of Spartan leadership, part of Student Council's
goals, and a huge step towards ensuring unhindered student development.
We had a turn out of 62 students. By far the best attendance we
have had in my personal recollection. We even had instructors show up!
Thanks to Gene from the library for being in attendance.
The Student Council also presented the student body with a Shadow Box display that contained a hat signed by Buford Johnson (Tuskegee Airman!) Buford Johnson's P-47N was one of four aircraft used in the U.S. Air Force Gunnery Meet at Nellis AFB, Nevada. The first TOP GUN competition! Look him up he's a living legend! This box will be going on the wall very soon.
I was more than pleased with the number of students that attended our meeting. Mr Goertzen's, Mr Crawford's, and council member efforts towards attendance are much appreciated. I am sure this was a first meeting for some and hopefully not the last for any. My cabinet is responsible for a very full agenda and committed to working towards many goals. Goals we may not reach without student support. This is your school, your council, and your future; come to the meetings every tuesday that you can; communicate to connect. Learn what opportunities you may otherwise not be aware of. Some students will decide to take ownership of their learning experience and Some students will become leaders in the development of their education, their school, their ethos, and their future. If we can't find the path, we will make one. Some will still choose to say that others are to blame for where they are. This is a fallacy.
